Common Questions

What age can my child start Taekwondo?

We welcome students from age 5 in our Kids Program. At this age, classes focus on movement, listening skills, basic coordination, and fun — providing a positive first experience of structured martial arts training.

No experience is needed for any of our programs. Everyone starts at white belt, and our instructors are skilled at welcoming and developing complete beginners alongside more advanced students.

ATTA follows the Kukkiwon belt system, progressing from white belt through colour belts to black belt and Dan grades. Gradings are held at regular intervals and assess technical skill and understanding of Taekwondo principles. Belts earned at ATTA are Kukkiwon-recognised internationally.

New students typically start in comfortable sportswear. Once enrolled, a Taekwondo uniform (dobok) is required. Sparring equipment is introduced progressively as students advance — our team will advise on exactly what is needed at each stage.

Taekwondo is one of the safest martial arts for children, with a structured learning progression that introduces contact elements only when students are technically and emotionally ready. Safety equipment is used for all sparring activities.
