Teens Taekwondo
Classes

The teenage years are when Taekwondo training can make the biggest difference. At ATTA in Coomera, our Teens Program is designed specifically for the 12–17 age group — combining serious physical training with the kind of mental and character development that matters most during adolescence. Our teens don’t just get fitter. They become more focused, more resilient, and more capable of handling what life puts in front of them.

• Olympic-style techniques — techniques and tactics used in World Taekwondo competition

Physical Development

• Full-body conditioning — strength, flexibility, cardiovascular fitness and explosive power
• Sport-specific agility and coordination — movement patterns that build athletic capacity across all sports
• Progressive physical challenge — intensity scales with each student’s development and experience

Mental & Personal Development

• Discipline — the commitment to train consistently and improve regardless of mood or circumstance
• Resilience — learning to respond to setbacks as information, not failure
• Respect — for instructors, training partners, and oneself
• Goal orientation — the belt system provides structured, meaningful targets
• Pressure management — handling grading, competition, and the discomfort of trying hard things

WHY TAEKWONDO

Why Taekwondo Is Particularly Valuable for Teenagers

Adolescence is a period of significant physical, emotional and social development. Taekwondo addresses all three dimensions simultaneously. Unlike team sports, where role and contribution can feel passive or dependent on others, Taekwondo is an individual discipline — every improvement is owned personally. This builds a particular kind of self-reliance and confidence that teenagers carry into other areas of life.

PROGRESSION

Competition Pathway

For teens who show competitive ambition, the Teens Program at ATTA provides a natural pathway toward competitive Taekwondo. Students who demonstrate the technical foundation and temperament for competition can progress into our Elite & Competition Program — training toward regional, state, national and international events under Grandmaster Yun’s specialist guidance.

Grandmaster Yun has trained athletes who compete at the highest levels of the sport. His insight into what genuine competitive preparation requires — from Olympic athletes to World Championship participants — is available to ATTA students who are ready for that challenge.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Frequently Asked Questions — Teens Taekwondo

My teenager has never done a martial art before — is this program suitable?

Yes. Our Teens Program welcomes complete beginners. All students start at white belt, and the program is structured to bring everyone up to speed at an appropriate pace. Teenagers who start with no experience frequently surprise themselves — and us — with how quickly they progress.

Yes. Prior martial arts experience is an advantage in understanding discipline and basic movement, though belt rank does not transfer between disciplines. We assess each student individually and place them at the right starting point for their Taekwondo-specific level.

Sparring is a component of the Teens Program and introduced progressively. It is always conducted with appropriate safety equipment and supervision. Students are never placed in sparring situations before they are technically and emotionally ready. For students who are interested purely in fitness and non-competitive training, we accommodate this — speak to us at your first class.

Yes. Teens who show competitive interest and the necessary technical foundation can progress into our Elite & Competition Program, which specifically prepares students for regional, state, national and international competition. Grandmaster Yun’s background as an international referee and coach makes this preparation as close to elite-standard as anywhere in Australia.
